Start with the bill you already pay
Keeping a music subscription changes the comparison. If your Spotify plan already includes audiobooks, its included allowance has no additional cost. A separate audiobook membership is an extra bill, not a replacement for the music bill.
A useful example
Suppose you plan to finish two 12-hour books each month. That is 24 catalog hours. A 15-hour allowance would leave nine hours uncovered. This is where an add-on, a credit-based plan or individual purchases becomes relevant.
By contrast, one eight-hour book could fit inside an included allowance. Buying another subscription for that pattern may be unnecessary. Both examples assume the specific books are available in the relevant catalog.
When the answer changes
- Long books put more pressure on an hourly allowance than short books.
- Keeping purchased books after cancellation can matter more than the lowest monthly bill.
- Annual plans trade a lower monthly equivalent for an upfront commitment.
