Use this order before adding a subscription
- Check whether a subscription you already keep includes the book.
- Look for a library loan if waiting is acceptable.
- Check the one-time purchase price.
- Compare a membership against that specific price.
A subscription is not always the cheapest answer
Imagine the book you want costs $6 to buy, while a suitable subscription costs $9 for that month. The purchase is cheaper for this example, and creates no recurring bill. If the book instead costs $24, the calculation changes.
Those numbers are illustrative, not current prices for a particular title. Enter your actual purchase price in the calculator's budget assumptions.
Your reading pattern matters more than the size of a provider's headline catalog.
Compare a typical month
Trial offers can help you evaluate a service, but they are not its ongoing cost. Our default totals use normal prices so an introductory offer cannot make an expensive long-term choice look permanently free.
